We offer 1 hr free Forest Bathing strolls in various SE London parks to help people connect to nature and others. A ParkBathe session involves walking slowly with a small group (10 max) while being guided on how to use the senses to notice and absorb the natural landscape (no water is involved).
The group covers a short distance through woodland areas within the park. The sessions are mostly silent, with opportunities to share what we see. This appeals to many people who want to connect socially, but who don't always feel chatty.
These walks have a calming effect upon the nervous system and participants often feel soothed, relaxed and more connected to themselves and others afterwards. Our study showed an overall 40% reduction in anxiety and 51% reduction in rumination (mind chatter) in adults. There were significant benefits for teens and children also.
ParkBathe accepts referrals who suffer anxiety, depression, stress, over-busy minds, loneliness, social isolation and bereavement. It has also helped those looking to connect to nature and their community. The women sessions we run have proven popular with women who feel unsafe in green spaces and who wish to connect to other women in a safe, nonjudgemental environment.
Forest Bathing is very easy to learn and can be adapted to fit into most people's lives. It has appealed to those who have tried, but struggled with mindfulness. It is suitable for all ages, from children up to the elderly, as it is a low-impact activity. We can run sessions for those with lower mobility and family sessions which proved particularly popular for families of children with ADHD or sensory impairments.
Walks run mostly at weekend in a number of parks in Bromley and Croydon.
ParkBathe is free. Sessions should be booked via this link https://linktr.ee/parkbathe
