Kent Association for the Blind (KAB) have a rehab team working across the whole of the borough of Bromley, as well as additional teams in Kent. The rehab team works with visually impaired people and their carers, giving FREE advice and instruction on how to manage everyday tasks, demonstrating equipment and suggesting ways of solving practical problems in the home from putting toothpaste on a toothbrush to cooking a 4-course meal!

* Support includes:-
• Assessment of individual needs,
• Advice and information on eye conditions and living with sight loss,
• Training in all aspects of daily living and communication,
• Mobility training at home, in the workplace, and outdoors,
• Low vision assessment,
• Equipment provision, demonstration and advice,
• Welfare rights and benefits advice,
• Training in access technology,
• Registration as sight impaired or severely sight impaired,
• Support, advice and information for family members, carers and professionals,
• Environmental assessments and advice on making spaces and buildings more accessible.
* Once a referral has been received, the person will be contacted to discuss their needs.
* A person can refer themselves.
* Rehab advice can be given at first contact, which may be sufficient.
* If appropriate, a referral will be taken for a home visit at which a Rehab Worker will carry out an assessment of needs and determine, with the client, what rehab is required and what form this should take (e.g mobility training, kitchen skills training etc.).
Please note: Consent to contact KAB must be obtained from the person before a referral can be taken.
