Guide Communicators (GCs) can assist people with dual sensory
impairment maintain andimprove their independence by
supporting them with:
daily living skills.
KAB GCs are trained in a wide range of communication methods, including clear speech, block alphabet, deafblind manual alphabet. Some GCs are also skilled in using sign language (BSL, Makaton and Sign Supported English), symbol systems, objects of reference and hand-under-hand
communication. All our GCs provide a professional sighted guiding service and can offer
support with some equipment like hearing aids.
The service is available to people living in their own homes, in supported living or in residential settings. We also provide support for people in emergency situations, such as, helping people communicate with staff when they are admitted to hospital. This service is available seven days a week, with a minimum booking of one 2-hour session per fortnight.
Hourly charges vary according to level of communication needs, location, time and day, so please
contact us for details. Individuals may be eligible for financial help from their local council or
they can purchase the service independently.
