This befriending service provides companionship in the home, for the over 60’s living in the London Borough of Bexley, whose needs have been identified under ‘Prevention and Early Intervention’ funding protocols. The befriending service aims to promote confidence, independence and reduce loneliness.
In particular it aims to: - * ensure people have a positive experience of care; * delay and reduce the need for care, support and admission to hospital; * enhance the quality of life for people with long term conditions; help people recover from adverse events, illness and injury and enhance quality of life for people with care and support needs.

* N.B People with dementia can be accepted, as long as their care needs are low.
* Volunteer befrienders will primarily provide companionship. They do not replace professional carers and will only provide occasional assistance with transport or prescription collection by mutual agreement with the support worker.
