Living with, and caring for those affected by, dementia can be challenging and frustrating. At Irish Community Services, we recognise the importance and value of providing culturally sensitive support, which can help to re-awaken memories and provide a calming sense of reconnection with a shared Irish background.
Happy Days Reminiscence Group
A facilitated support group for cared for people who have some form of dementia, memory loss or cognitive impairment, and for the carers who are looking after them. An opportunity to remember the past through shared memories, to create life story books and reminiscence boxes, and simply provide a safe and welcoming place for all.
Your Life Through Songs
A social group for people with dementia, memory loss or cognitive impairment and their carers, providing an opportunity to sing, remember and enjoy songs from home. In our experience, music and song have a positive impact on dementia, by lessening anxiety and stimulating emotions which in turn awaken past memories. No singing experience required.
If you would like to get involved with one of the groups or get some advice about dementia, please contact:
