What is Messy Church?
Messy Church is church like you’ve never seen it before (unless you’ve been to Messy Church before). If you’ve ever thought that church is boring and you have to wear your smart clothes then think again! Messy church, as the name suggests is certainly not a place to wear your ‘Sunday best’. It’s hands on, interactive, get stuck in kind of church.
So what do we do at Messy Church?
Messy church at Deep Water Baptist Church usually consists of the following elements:
Make something – we usually have about five craft tables where children are able to express their creativity in a variety of ways. Each craft relates in some way to the story of the day so is a fun way to learn as well as having some nice crafts to take home with you.
Celebration time – the fun doesn’t end with the crafts. The celebration time is a lively time of singing, a story, fun and games, and prayer. The songs are fun and active, this is Messy Church so expect jumping, clapping, dancing and noise! We look at a story from the Bible with the help of Cheeky Charlie the monkey and perhaps a DVD clip or a game. We focus on prayer in one of our crafts but the children also enjoy finishing with the Messy Church “Aaaaamen!!”
Food – we usually have food at the beginning of the afternoon. Our Messy Church starts at 3.15pm so it’s ideal for children coming out of school. And of course, kids are always hungry after school. Due to the timing and the high numbers we get at Messy Church, we don’t have a sit down meal but we have sandwiches and light refreshments, which should be just enough to keep your youngsters happy until tea time!
All of this is packed into an afternoon that your children are guarunteed to enjoy and best of all, it’s all FREE. So why not give it a try?
