Keston Parish Church is proud of it’s choral tradition
There has been an adult choir at Keston Parish Church since the late 1950s. It has been affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music since 1958. In November 2008 the choir celebrated fifty years of affiliation to the Royal School of Church Music by commissioning an anthem, O Praise ye the Lord, from local composer Ian Brentnall.
The main work of the choir is to lead the music at our Sunday 10am Holy Communion service (not first Sunday of the month – See First Sunday Singers). As well as singing hymns old and new from Hymns Ancient and Modern hymns and songs for refreshing worship and the Communion setting Mass of St Cedd by Peter Nardone we aim to perform an anthem twice a month and at main Festival Services.
The Choir also sings at weddings and funerals, for which a fee is paid. Our highlight of the year is the annual Christmas Carol Service held on the Sunday before Christmas. See: YouTube extract from the 2014 Carol Service on You tube
For the 2019 Carol service we recruited members of the congregation and friends from other choirs which enabled us to present a choir of twenty five who were able to perform a wide range of carols.
We rehearse on Friday afternoons in the Keston Church Hall from 2.30pm to 4pm
